Throughout camp, we talked about Beethoven’s style, the character of this piece, and the historical significance. As Beethoven himself said: “to play a wrong note is insignificant, to play without passion is inexcusable”.

We are excited for our final performance this Friday, July 29th!
Summer Camp has been going strong these past couple weeks – we started off the month with our youngest students who received their new instruments for the first time! Fun “electives” have included Orff Ensemble, Choir, Music and Art, Music and Storytelling, and Jazz. More photos and videos to come, including our orchestra performances.
On June 17-18, a group of Harmony Project teachers gathered for a two day intensive workshop on the “Creative Ability Development” (CAD) Method with Alice Kanack, all the way from Rochester, NY. CAD pedagogy develops creativity in students through musical improvisation. The sessions consisted of playing, discussion, and exploration. We are so excited to try out new techniques with our students! Many thanks to Alice for her time and generosity!

This past Saturday we celebrated our 5th graders’ hard work and graduation from elementary school at California Pizza Kitchen. Many thanks, CPK, for donating lunches! We had a blast and were able to take a moment to feel proud of all our accomplishments.

The Harmony Project Percussion ensemble recently performed a second rendition of “Walking on the Moon” on stage at the last New West Symphony concert of the season – “The Symphony Rocks” – opening for Stewart Copeland himself! Mr. Copeland commented on how much the kids had improved in just a month. Not many elementary school students can say they’ve opened for Stewart Copeland. Fantastic job to all involved!
Last week the 3rd graders performed for parents, friends, and teachers in their very own recital (we have gotten so big that we can no longer do combined concerts!).
